- Title
- Use of linseed oil in improving the parameters of metabolic syndrome: a systematic review
- Review Question
- What are the effects of flaxseed oil supplementation on metabolic syndrome parameters?
- Study Type Included
- The studies included in the review must be randomized controlled trials.
- Condition Being Studied
- Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a complex manifestation involving several factors that can cause an increased cardiovascular risk, being responsible for the increase in general and cardiovascular mortality by approximately 1.5 times and 2.5 times, respectively. The National Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) defines MS as a combination of at least three of the following components: abdominal obesity measured by measuring the waist circumference, with values above 102 cm being considered increased for men and 88 cm for women, triglycerides greater than or equal to 150 mg/dL, HDL cholesterol less than 40 mg/dL for men and less than 50 mg/dL for women, systolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 130 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 85 mmHg and fasting blood glucose greater than or equal to 110 mg/dL.
- Participant
- The review will focus on the adult population, of both sexes and classified as overweight or obese, according to the Body Mass Index (BMI) for the given population.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Intervention studies carried out with linseed oil supplementation, containing ALA, and which evaluated its effect on at least one of the MetS parameters (changes in waist circumference, fasting glucose, triglycerides, blood pressure and blood pressure) will be considered. HDL), published in the last 10 years (from 2012 to February 7, 2022), limited to human studies, with full text available, with no language restriction.
- Comparator Control
- The comparison will be made with other types of oils such as placebos, such as soybean, sunflower, olive and fish oils.
- Main Outcome
- Intervention studies carried out with flaxseed oil supplementation and which evaluated its effect on at least one of the MS parameters (waist circumference, biochemical variables related to insulin resistance, triglycerides, blood pressure and HDL), published in the last 10 years, will be selected. years (2012 to February 7, 2022), limited to human studies, with full text available, with no language restriction.
