Title
The effect of fennel on primary dysmenorrhea: a systematic review protocol
Review Question
To determine the safety and efficacy of fennel for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea
Study Type Included
Any clinical trials (non randomized, randomized, historical study with concurrent control) will be included.
Condition Being Studied
Worldwide primary dysmenorrhea is one of the most important public health problems among young females which interferes with their social responsibility. Primary dysmenorrhea is defined as painful menstrual cramps of uterus without any obvious gynecological problem. The standard treatment to relieve pain is medical therapy by oral contraceptive or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as Mefenamic Acid or Ibuprofen). Due to side effects of chemical therapy it seems that some herbal drugs may be a good substitute. Fennel has demonstrated beneficial effects in treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. The authors' search showed that there is no systematic review about the effect of fennel on dysmenorrhea.
