- Title
- Efficacy and safety of ten Chinese medicine injections combined with chemotherapy for breast cancer: A systematic review and network meta-Analysis
- Review Question
- We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of the ten Chinese medicine injections combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer.
- Study Type Included
- Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included. Observational, cohort, case-control, case series, qualitative and laboratory studies, and uncontrolled trials will be excluded.
- Condition Being Studied
- As one of the most common cancer ranking first to cause deaths from cancer in women worldwide, breast cancer is treated with surgery, radiotherapy, and drug therapy including chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapy. In the meantime, chemotherapy is still limited by the incidence of severe adverse reactions and acquired or intrinsic drug resistance. In recent years, numerous studies have shown that the combination of Chinese medicine injections and chemotherapy can improve the efficacy and safety on the treatment of breast cancer. But there are no studies to directly or indirectly compare the efficacy and safety between the different Chinese medicine injections up to now. Therefore, we planed to implement a network meta-analysis to determine which one can achieve the superior therapeutic effect.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Patients with breast cancer without limitations on sex, race, region, or nationality. The diagnosis of breast cancer should be confirmed by histopathological examination. Exclusion criteria: Incongruent with the diagnosis, such as not mentioned histopathological examination.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Inclusion criteria: Experimental groups received the Chinese medicine injections combined with chemotherapy in the control group. The Chinese medicine injections include Shenqi Fuzheng injection, Fufangkushen injection (Yanshu injection), Kang'ai injection, Shenmai injection, Aidi injection, Kanglaite injection, Shenfu injection, Xiao'aiping injection, Huangqi injection, Shengmai injection. Each Chinese medicine injection is a separate intervention in the analysis. Exclusion: The intervention in certain study that is not mentioned in the list of the inclusion criteria, and patients in the experimental group were treated with different Chinese medicine will be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion: The control group was treated with chemotherapy. Prior to this, patients could have been treated with surgery o radiotherapy. Exclusion: The control group was treated with hormone therapy or targeted therapy, or the therapy of the control group in certain study was not the same as the experimental group without the Chinese medicine injections.
- Main Outcome
- Effective rate, Quality of life improved rate , and incidence of leucopenia. Measures of effect Binary variable is analysed using relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs)
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- CD4+/CD8+ ratio, incidence of thrombocytopenia, and incidence of nausea and vomiting. Measures of effect Binary variable is analysed using relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). If the data is continuous variable, we would choose mean difference (MD) with 95% CIs.
