Review Question
This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was designed to assess the efficacy of folic acid in combination with vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 supplementation in stroke and to identify the target population that would benefit from this treatment.
Study Type Included
We will include randomized controlled trials to assess the beneficial effects of the folic acid combined with vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 supplementation.
Condition Being Studied
Stroke is one of the major public health problems and a leading cause of death and disability among adults worldwide. Recent studies show that the number of people affected by stroke reached 101 million and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) reached 143 million worldwide in 2019, creating a significant disease and economic burden.
Participant
Inclusion: Adults.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Folic acid combined with vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 supplementation.
Comparator Control
Placebo or very low dose control group.
Main Outcome
Main outcomes: all types of stroke. Measures of effect Relative risk with 95% confidence interval was used as a measure of the association between supplementation and risk of stroke.
