- Title
- Efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants versus vitamin K antagonists for left ventricular thrombus: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis
- Review Question
- How does efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants versus vitamin K antagonists for the treatment of left ventricular thrombus?
- Study Type Included
- We will include randomised and observational studies to compare the outcomes associated with direct oral anticoagulants use and vitamin K antagonists use for the treatment of LV thrombi.
- Condition Being Studied
- Left ventricular thrombus. Stroke. Systemic embolization. Bleeding.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Adults with left ventricular thrombus. Exclusion: Adolescents (under 18 years of age).
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Although vitamin K antagonists are recommended as first‐line anticoagulants for patients with left ventricular thrombus, accumulating evidence suggests direct oral anticoagulants could be a safe alternative. Efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants should be assessed to justify their usage in this population.
- Comparator Control
- Standard care: vitamin K antagonists-only. Comparator care: direct oral anticoagulants-only.
- Main Outcome
- The primary efficacy outcome was stroke or systemic embolism event rate, and the primary safety outcome was bleeding.
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- The secondary efficacy outcome was LV trombi resolution rate. Measures of effect Odds ratios.
- Study Method
- Meta-analysis, Systematic review
