Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included, irrespective of the publication date, setting, and risk of bias.
Condition Being Studied
Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by dysregulated host response to infection, while septic shock is a subset of sepsis with circulatory and cellular/ metabolic dysfunction associated with a higher risk of mortality. Septic shock is a major healthcare problem that contributes to the most common causes of death in the intensive care unit.
Participant
Patients with sepsis who received vitamin C and vitamin B1 were enrolled in this review.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The interventions of interest were specified with vitamin C and vitamin B1, irrespective of dose and duration.
Comparator Control
The patients with sepsis who received common therapies were included in the control group.
Main Outcome
The main outcome is all-cause mortality. Measures of effect Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to calculate the difference for all-cause mortality.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
The duration of vasoactive agents was evaluated in this review. Measures of effect Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% CI was used to calculate the difference for the duration of vasoactive agents.
