Title
Therapeutic use of ferric maltol in patients with iron deficiency anaemia: a systematic review.
Review Question
Does Ferric maltol show good therapeutic outcome not only in iron deficiency anaemia as well as patients with existing complications like Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Chronic renal failure, renal insufficiency?
Study Type Included
Full research work RCTs
Condition Being Studied
Iron is an essential element for the production of blood. About 70 % of the body's iron is found in the RBCs of our blood called haemoglobin and in muscle cells called myoglobin. Anemia is a common extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is frequently overlooked as a complication. Patients with IBD are commonly found to have iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) secondary to chronic blood loss, and impaired iron absorption due to tissue inflammation.
Participant
Inclusion: -iron deficiency patients treated with ferric maltol. -ferric maltol treated inpatient with iron deficiency anaemia and further complications. Exclusion: -anaemic patients non treated with ferric maltol as a major treatment. -iron-deficiency anaemic patients treated with multiple drugs.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
ferric maltol use in iron deficiency anemia
Comparator Control
either placebo/other drugs
Main Outcome
The baseline of Hemoglobin (Hb) and ferritin responses after administration of ferric maltol. Measures of effect Mean standard deviation
Outcome Measure
