Title
Comparing uric acid-lowering therapies and their effects on the progression of chronic kidney disease
Review Question
Does the use of specific uric acid-lowering therapy result in better outcomes (defined by change in creatinine, change in eGFR, development of end-stage renal failure, or the need for renal replacement therapy) relative to other uric acid-lowering therapies?
Study Type Included
Randomised controlled trials.
Condition Being Studied
Chronic kidney disease. Hyperuricaemia.
Participant
Adults on different uric acid-lowering therapies.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Use of uric acid-lowering therapies, including: Allopurinol; Febuxostat; Sulfinpyrazone; Benzbromarone.
Comparator Control
Other uric acid-lowering therapies (different drug-drug comparisons).
Main Outcome
Mean changes in serum creatinine over the duration of the study. Measures of effect We are currently awaiting advice from a statistician to determine how duration of the study would impact on renal function, and if there is any method we can use to correct for this. We may use change in renal function per year as an outcome.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Mean change in eGFR. Development of end stage renal failure. Requirement for renal replacement therapy. Measures of effect We are currently awaiting advice from a statistician to determine how duration of the study would impact on renal function, and if there is any method we can use to correct for this. We may use change in renal function per year as an outcome.
Study Method
