- Title
- Effectiveness of Urea-Based Cream and Pyridoxine(vitamin B6) on Sorafenib-induced Hand-foot Syndrome/skin reaction in hepatocellular carcinoma patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
- Review Question
- To compare the effectiveness of urea-based cream and pyridoxine(vitamin b6) in treating sorafenib-induced hand-foot syndrome in hepatocellular carcinoma patients.
- Study Type Included
- Only Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will be included in this study.
- Condition Being Studied
- Sorafenib is a multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor, which has been mainly used in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. During the treatment, sorafenib can cause a variety of toxic reactions, such as hand-foot syndrome / skin reaction, hypertension, arterial thromboembolism, diarrhea and so on. Hand-foot Syndrome (HFS)/skin reaction(HFSR) is considered the most clinically significant dermatologic adverse event. For patients, these debilitating symptoms hinder their ability to perform activities of daily living and cause a significant financial burden, thus leading to a reduced quality of life. In treatment, according to NCCN guidelines, will reduce the dose, change the regimen, and discontinue the treatment, and it will significantly affect the anti-tumor efficacy. Clinically, patients are often advised to apply emollient ointments, urea-based cream, prophylactic vitamin E, vitamin B6, or use COX-2 inhibitors , etc. However, the efficacy is uncertain. To date, the treatment effectiveness between urea-based cream and pyridoxine(vitamin B6) have not been systematic evaluated.
- Participant
- Hepatocellular carcinoma patients using sorafenib.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- (1) Urea-based cream applied on hands or feet; (2) pyridoxine(vitamin b6) as treatment;
- Comparator Control
- The intervention which not include Urea-based cream applied on hands or feet or pyridoxine(vitamin b6) as treatment, will be any other kind of therapy including hydrocolloid dressing, apply moisturizing creams(do not include urea based cream and vitB6); wear thick cotton gloves and/or socks at night, nutritious medicine, etc.
- Main Outcome
- (1)Incidence of HFS of any grade (according to the criteria of National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, NCI-CTCAE version 4.03); (2)Recovery of HFS; (3)Any other outcomes reported in the eligible studies will be extracted, synthesized and reported.
