- Title
- A meta-analysis of the predictive value of blood urea nitrogen on mortality in critically ill patients
- Review Question
- Whether blood urea nitrogen is an independent risk factor for death in critically ill patients?
- Study Type Included
- We will include prospective or retrospective studies to assess the predictive value of blood urea nitrogen on mortality in critically ill patients.
- Condition Being Studied
- Critical illness, including heart failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute coronary syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and so on, remains a high mortality.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Adults diagnosed with severe illness. Exclusion: Adolescents (under 18 years of age), does not meet the diagnostic criteria for severe disease.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Blood urea nitrogen was measured at admission.
- Comparator Control
- Patients were divided into high blood urea nitrogen group and low urea nitrogen group according to the cut-off value of blood urea nitrogen which measured at admission.
- Main Outcome
- The accuracy of blood urea nitrogen in predicting mortality. Measures of effect We will calculate sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE), positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and corresponding 95% credible interval (CI). A summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve will be drawn to assess the overall diagnostic accuracy.
