- Title
- Effects of the microstructure of starchy foods on postprandial glucose response and appetite in healthy human: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised crossover trials
- Review Question
- How does the microstructure of starchy foods affect postprandial blood glucose, insulin, and appetite response?
- Study Type Included
- Inclusion: Randomized crossover trials (RCTs) Exclusion: not RCTs
- Condition Being Studied
- glycaemic response and appetite
- Participant
- Inclusion: healthy adults exclusion: adolescents (under 18 years of age) and elderly people (over 65)
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Consumption of starchy foods with limited starch digestibility caused by their microstructural characteristics.
- Comparator Control
- Consumption of starchy foods with higher starch digestibility caused by their microstructural characteristics.
- Main Outcome
- The main outcomes include postprandial glycaemic response and appetite. Measures of effect Glycaemic response defined as glucose and insulin incremental area under curve (iAUC). Appetite response defined as appetite-regulating hormone iAUC, subjective satiety score iAUC, and ad-libitum energy intake (g or Kcal).
