Title
The effect of dietary sodium restriction in patients with heart failure: systematic review and meta-analysis.
Review Question
Does sodium restriction improve patients with heart failure class and all-cause hospital readmission rates compared with a normal diet?
Study Type Included
We will include randomised and observational trials to assess the effects of the dietary sodium restriction,
Condition Being Studied
Heart failure. Heart failure continues to increase in prevalence with an enormous impact on morbidity and mortality.
Participant
Studies were considered eligible if they (1) included adults (≥18 years old) with heart failure (as defined by various primary heart diseases); (2) applied dietary sodium restriction , and the sodium intake of participants in the comparator group was higher than that of the intervention group; and (3) measured at least one of the following outcomes: KCCQ, NYHA, all-cause mortality, and readmission rate.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Restriction of dietary sodium.
Comparator Control
Usual care or without restriction of dietary sodium.
Main Outcome
KCCQ, NYHA, all-cause mortality, and readmission rate.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
BNP and SBP.
Study Method
Epidemiologic, Meta-analysis, Systematic review
