Title
Efficacy and safety of fire needle therapy combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid for acne vulgaris: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Review Question
How does the effectiveness and safety of fire needle therapy combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid for acne vulgaris? We want to evaluate this combination therapy for acne vulgaris.
Study Type Included
Only RCTs of fire needle therapy combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid for acne vulgaris will be included. There is no limitation on language.
Condition Being Studied
Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of the pilosebaceous follicles including sebaceous glands and hair follicles, usually affecting the face, chest, back and neck. According to research reports, it affects more than 85% of teenagers and around 9.4% of the world population. As for the treatment of AV, the corresponding treatment strategy is often formulated according to its specific grade. Detailed recommendations include benzoyl peroxide, antibiotic, retinoid and isotretinoin. In addition, physical therapies, such as salicylic acid peels, laser and photodynamic therapy are also effective treatment options for AV. However, current systematic therapy have significant limitations. Alternative treatment options are necessary.Fire acupuncture therapy has the advantages of safety, economy, and effectiveness. Salicylic acid(SA), is a safe and efficacious peeling agent for AV. What's more, using the 30% formulation of SA should not pose any significant risks to systemic health in patients. In recent years, there are a quantity of clinical trials on the treatment based on fire needle therapy combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid(SSA) for AV. Therefore, we decided to evaluate the effect of fire needle therapy combined with 30% SSA for AV accurately and provide evidence-based medical proof for the clinical application.
Participant
Participants diagnosed with acne vulgaris. There is no restriction with respect to grading of acne vulgaris, age, gender, race, nationality, and educational background.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The patients in the treatment group will use fire needle therapy combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid for acne vulgaris. The acupuncture points for fire needle therapy, treatment frequency, and duration of treatment will not be restricted.
Comparator Control
The control group will receive the same supramolecular salicylic acid as the treatment group, The methods and course of treatment used in the control group will be the same as those in the treatment group. Co-treatments, if any, should be the same in both groups.
Main Outcome
The primary outcome is the total effective rate. Measures of effect Depend on the included studies.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
