Title
The efficacy and safety of potassium competitive acid blocker (PCAB) in NSAID-induced gastric ulcer disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
How is the efficacy and safety of potassium competitive acid blocker in NSAID-induced gastric ulcer disease?
Study Type Included
Only randomized controlled trials will be included in this review.
Condition Being Studied
Since 2015, the use of PCAB compared to PPI has been studied for the treatment of NSAID-induced gastric ulcer disease. We aim to summarize and confirm the efficacy and safety of PCAB to PPIs for NSAID-induced gastric ulcer disease in hopes of recommending that PCAB could be an alternative first-line therapy in such conditions.
Participant
Patients with NSAID-induced gastric ulcer disease.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Any potassium competitive acid blocker including, but not limited to: vonoprazan, soraprazan, revaprazan and linaprazan.
Comparator Control
The placebo and proton pump inhibitor including omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, pantoprazole, dexlansoprazole and ilaprazole.
Main Outcome
- Improvement in GI symptoms - Healing rate (proportion) of ulcers as assessed by upper GI endoscopy Measures of effect 1) Pooled healing rate (%) 2) Pooled Odds Ratio (OR)
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
- Treatment-emergent adverse events
Study Method
Meta-analysis, Systematic review
