- Do Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide extracts show inhibitory activity against cancer in in vitro/in vivo models? Context and rationale This study will compile information about the therapeutic effect of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides or polysaccharide extracts on cancer models (in vitro or in vivo). This data are extremely important to provide a safe direction for clinical trials that may be performed using Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides for treating human cancers.

- Inclusion criteria: Controlled studies with a separate control group, non-clinical experimental studies. Exclusion criteria: Case studies, crossover studies, controlled trial, cohort studies.

- Inclusion criteria: All murine models (mice or rats) with experimental cancer with or without metastasis, all in vitro models using cancer cell lines (in vitro). Exclusion criteria: Animals with co-morbidities; animals other than mice or rats; in silico models; other cells lineages than cancer; ex vivo samples.

- Intervention
- Inclusion criteria: Anticancer treatment with Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides or polysaccharide extracts, including pretreatment of tumor cells. All treatment times, frequencies and dosages are eligible for inclusion. Exclusion criteria: Studies of other type of mushroom extracts, studies of polysaccharides linked to any other compounds (e.g., peptides, antibodies, nanoparticles) will not be selected.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion criteria: Appropriate control: vehicle treated control animals. Vehicle treated control cells. Exclusion criteria: All other control conditions (e.g., no treatment, treated with saline if vehicle is not saline). Sham group, placebo group, or animals not treated with vehicle.

- Outcome Measure
- Inclusion criteria: In vivo: tumor weight, tumor volume, biochemical and molecular assays on tumor tissue to determine the effects or mechanism of action of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides or polysaccharide extracts. In vitro: cell viability, proliferation, migration, biochemistry and molecular assays. Exclusion criteria: No relevant results reported (e.g., just reporting cell viability without further testing).
