Title
Clinical efficacy and safety of Cuban policosanol for the treatment of hyperlipidemia: a meta-analysis and systematic review
Review Question
This study aimed to systematically investigate whether Cuban Policosanol was effective and safe on dyslipidemia.
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials
Condition Being Studied
Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It could induce atherosclerosis, leading to coronary heart disease, stroke, and myocardial infarction, increasing the incidence and mortality rate of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.
Participant
Participants, adult patients (18 years of age and older) with dyslipidemia.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The therapy used Cuban Policosanol.
Comparator Control
Control group: placebo, blank control, and conventional western medicine (such as stains).
Main Outcome
The primary outcome indicators are determined according to the Guiding Principles for Clinical Research of Drugs: markedly effective: TC decreased ≥20% or TG decreased ≥40% or HDL-C increased ≥0.26 mmol/L; effective: TC decreased by 10% to 20% or TG decreased by 20% to 40% or HDL-C increased by 0.10 to 0.26 mmol/L; invalid: did not meet the above criteria. Measures of effect The administration time for both the control and experimental groups must not be less than 4 weeks.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
The secondary outcome includes Serum TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, apolipoprotein A (apo A), apo B Measures of effect The administration time for both the control and experimental groups must not be less than 4 weeks.
Study Method
Intervention, Meta-analysis, Systematic review
