- Is topical Pilocarpine is effective in treatment of presbyopia? What is its safety profile?
- Study Type Included
- 1. Studies including diagnosed presbyopic patients in which topical Pilocarpine has been used as treatment modality and pre and post drug application have been documented. 2. Observational studies of any type (prospective, retrospective, cohort), case series with ≥ 5 cases.
- Condition Being Studied

- Participant
- Presbyopia patients of all age group 40-60 year in which topical Pilocarpine is used as treatment modality.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Intervention: topical pilocarpine solution Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients including ≥ 40 year age less than 60 years old 2. Only patients with UNVA of at least Jaeger 2 or worse reading performance were included 3. Observational studies of any type, case series with ≥5 cases. Exclusion criteria: 1. Studies with baseline imbalance 2. Case report and case series less than 5 cases
- Comparator Control
- 1. Pre and post data after application of Pilocarpine 2. Pilocarpine vs. placebo
- Main Outcome
- 1. Near visual acuity (Uncorrected and corrected) (Jegger 1 and Jegger 2) 2. Distant visual acuity (Uncorrected and corrected) Measures of effect Continuous data: mean difference with 95% C.I will be calculated. For dichotomous data: Risk ratio will be calculated (95% C. I.)
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- Intra ocular pressure (IOP), treatment emergent adverse event (TEAEs) and Patient satisfaction level Measures of effect For absolute change mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) will be calculated. On the other hand, risk ratio will be calculated for dichotomous data.
