Review Question
To examine whether oral or topical phenylephrine reduce nasal congestion, we review randomized, controlled trials that assess its efficacy as a decongestant compared with placebo, in patients 12 years or over suffering from acute URTI or other illness causing acute nasal congestion.

Intervention
Phenylephrine given as sole intervention, either orally or topically. Excluding combination therapy with other decongestant medications or irrigation therapies.
Comparator Control
Non-exposed control group also suffering from acute nasal congestion.
Main Outcome
Whether phenylephrine is effective in reducing nasal congestion in people with acute nasal congestion. Measures of effect Reduced nasal airway resistance as an odds ratio.
