- Title
- The safety and effectiveness of notoginsenoside R1 for ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
- Review Question
- Whether notoginsenoside R1 is safe and effective for ischemic stroke?
- Study Type Included
- We will include randomised trials to assess the beneficial effects of the treatments
- Condition Being Studied
- Ischemic stroke is a general term for necrosis of brain tissue caused by stenosis or occlusion of blood supply arteries (carotid and vertebral arteries) and insufficiency of blood supply to the brain. Notoginsenoside R1 is derived from the dried root and rhizome of Panax notoginseng. It can disperse blood stasis and stop bleeding, reduce swelling and pain
- Participant
- Participants could be of any age, sex or ethnic origin, and patients must have been diagnosed according to recognized criteria of ischemic stroke.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Interventions using notoginsenoside R1 as a main variable. Combination therapy involving notoginsenoside R1 and other interventions will be compared with the intervention alone.
- Comparator Control
- No treatment, placebo, non-pharmaceutical therapy, or regular treatment and nursing.
- Main Outcome
- The effectiveness rate (ER) Any changes of neurologic: such as National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS) Any changes of patients' life quality: such as Barthel index (BI). Measures of effect Relative risks, weighted mean differences (WMD) or standardized mean differences (SMD).
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- Hemorheological measures and blood lipid profile, including whole blood viscosity (WBV), plasma viscosity (PV), and concentrations of blood fibrinogen, cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Measures of effect weighted mean differences (WMD) or standardized mean differences (SMD).
