- Review Question
- What are the morphological and histological changes occurring in the oral cavity after the administration of Nifedipine and/or Amlodipine?
- Study Type Included
- We will include observational studies (case-control and cohort design) and randomised control clinical trials for the assessment of harms.
- Condition Being Studied
- Gingival enlargement caused due to drugs such as amlodipine, nifedipine will be the main condition we will be checking for. Other oral manifestations such as xerostomia and altered taste sensation also will be taken into consideration.
- Participant
- Studies in which patients who are taking Nifedipine and/or Amlodipine between the age group of 30-70 years will be included. Studies in which any other drug besides Nifedipine and Amlodipine is used for the treatment of hypertension and studies where patients lie outside the age group of 30-70 years will be excluded. Studies where changes in the oral cavity has been assessed on patients not taking any drugs also will be excluded.

- Anti-hypertensives other than Nifedipine and/or Amlodipine
- Main Outcome
- Gingival enlargement seen in patients taking anti hypertensive drugs such as nifedipine and amlodipine. Measures of effect The effect will be measured in terms of Relative risk and Odds ratio

- Additional Outcome
- Other oral manifestations such as xerostomia and altered taste sensation seen in patients taking antihypertensives such as Nifedipine and Amlodipine. Measures of effect The effect will be measured in terms of Relative risk and Odds ratio
