- Title
- Effect of surface treatment on mechanical properties of Nickel Titanium Rotary files: A systematic review
- Review Question
- What are the various surface treatment available which enhances the mechanical properties of Nickel Titanium Files?
- Study Type Included
- Inclusion criteria: • In vivo studies • In situ studies using a cadaver model • In vitro and ex vivo studies conducted on extracted human permanent teeth. • Root canals prepared with Nickel Titanium rotary files • Surface characteristics assessed using digital microscope, stereomicroscope , scanning electron microscope(SEM) or Micro computed tomography. • Articles published till 31st December 2020. • Articles published in English Exclusion criteria: • Studies not done in human teeth. • Studies on deciduous teeth. • Root canals prepared with stainless steel instruments. • Root canals prepared with hand instruments.
- Condition Being Studied
- The nickel–titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments have highly improved the quality of cleaning and shaping of the root canals. Rotary instrumentation also requires less time to prepare canals as compared to hand instrumentation. However, NiTi instruments are associated with risk of being separated in the root canal system due to cyclic fatigue or torsional stress .It is speculated that these separated instruments within the root canal space would lead to failure of treatment and cause pain and discomfort to the patients. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the various surface treatment available which enhances the mechanical properties of the these Rotary Nickel Titanium instruments mechanical properties and reduces the risk of being separated in the root canal space.
- Participant
- Human permanent teeth
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Rotary Nickel Titanium file system
- Comparator Control
- Surface treated with non surface treated rotary file system
- Main Outcome
- Kinematic motion of rotary files endure cracks and develop lot of defects during root canal treatment. Surface treated file might be able to enhance the mechanical properties of file there by increasing the shelf life and less incidence of getting separated in the canal system. Measures of effect NONE.
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- Effect of surface treatment on incidence of crack formation in Rotary Nickel Titanium instruments when undergoing cyclic fatigue. Measures of effect none.
