- Title
- Efficacy and safety of erythritol air-polishing in implant prosthodontics: a systematic review
- Review Question
- The use of erythritol air-polishing is more effective and safer compared to alternative treatments for professional oral hygiene in implant-supported rehabilitations?
- Study Type Included
- Inclusion criteria1. In vitro or animal studies, randomized controlled trials (RCT), retrospective and prospective studies, case series 2. Studies that provide the use of dental implants 3. Studies that provide the use of erythritol powder air-polishing Exclusion criteria 1. Studies without available full-text 2. Non-original studies (ex. revisions, personal opinions, technical notes, editorials, ecc.) 3. Conferences Abstracts 4. Multiples publications on the same sample of patients (redundant publications)
- Condition Being Studied
- Professional oral hygiene is crucial to prevent peri-implant disease. Appropriate hygienic treatments should be used in patients rehabilitated with implant-supported restorations, with the aim of removing biofilm deposits without damaging the implant components. The aim of the present study is to investigate and summarize the results regarding the efficacy and safety of professional oral hygiene based on erythritol powder air-flow compared to alternative techniques described in the literature.
- Participant
- patients rehabilitated with dental implants affected or not by periimplant disease
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Erythritol air-polishing versus alternative professional oral hygienic treatments
- Comparator Control
- Other professional oral hygienic treatments
- Main Outcome
- Cleaning efficacy and safety of air-polishing using erythritol powder
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- The secondary outcomes assessed were surface changes (e.g., cell and bacterial viability, attachment, growth, proliferation) and surface modifications (e.g., topography, roughness, chemical composition).
