Review Question
How does the consumption of carrot affect serum levels of carotenoid compared to no consumption in healthy individual or in people with specific health conditions.
Study Type Included
We will select experimental studies (randomized as well as quasi-experimental) to assess the effects of Carrot on serum carotenoid levels, and will supplement these with observational studies (including cohort, case–control studies and cross sectional analytical studies).

Influence of carrot intake on serum carotenoid levels

Apparently healthy humans and people with specific health conditions

Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Consumption of carrot as a vegetable or as a component of any form of intake (e.g. juice, extract, tablet etc.) at a defined level
Comparator Control
Control group who has not taken any form of carrot in the selected studies
Main Outcome
Increase in mean serum levels of carotenoid. Measures of effect Mean difference.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
% of participants with improved serum carotenoid levels. Other secondary outcomes will be updated following Literature Review Measures of effect Risk difference
