- Title
- Anti-inflammatory effect of the natural substance, morin: a systematic review.
- Review Question
- Does the natural substance, morin, reduces inflammation in animal model of inflammation and inflamed cells compared to untreated control? Population (P): animal models of inflammation and inflamed cells Intervention (I): treatment with morin Comparison (C): animal model of inflammation and inflamed cells without treatment (untreated control) Outcomes (O): inflammation reduction Context and rationale The natural substance, morin has gained much prominence for its biological and pharmacological potential. The anti-inflammatory activity of this substance has also been extensively investigated. This review aims to assess in the literature whether morin has an anti-inflammatory effect. If the results are positive, it is an interesting finding for the use of this substance for the development of drugs to be used in human health.
- Study Type Included
- Inclusion criteria: In vitro studies and animal studies Exclusion criteria: Ex vivo studies, studies in humans and in sillico studies
- Condition Being Studied
- Participant
- Animal
- Inclusion criteria: For animal studies: experimental rat model in which inflammation was induced and evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of morin compared with rats in which inflammation was induced and there was no treatment. For in vitro studies: cells in which inflammation was induced and evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of morin compared with cells in which inflammation was induced and there was no treatment. Exclusion criteria: For animal studies: Rats in which it was not possible to induce inflammation. For in vitro studies: Cells in which it was not possible to induce inflammation. Ex vivo studies, studies in humans and in sillico studies will be excluded.
- Human Disease Modelled
- Inflammation or the inflammatory process is a reaction of the body to an infection or tissue injury. There are drugs or medications (anti-inflammatories) capable of interfering with the body's defense reaction process in order to minimize the damage and give the patient greater comfort.
- Intervention
- Inclusion criteria: For both animal and in vitro studies: studies evaluating the effect of the natural substance, morin, as an anti-inflammatory agent will be included. Studies that used morin alone, regardless of dose, time, and frequency will be included in this review. Exclusion criteria: For both animal and in vitro studies: studies that used morin in combination with another substance or used extracts containing morin and other components will be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion criteria: For both animal studies: 1.Experimental group: rats in which inflammation was induced and morin was treated. 2.Control group: rats in which inflammation was induced but no treatment was given. For in vitro studies: 1. Experimental group: cells in which inflammation was induced and morin was treated. 2.Control group: cells in which inflammation was induced but no treatment was given. Exclusion criteria: For both animal and in vitro studies: studies that do not compare experimental and control groups.
- Main Outcome
- Outcome Measure
- Inclusion criteria: For both animal and in vitro studies: 1. Effectiveness of morin as a treatment to control inflammation.2. Main outcome: reduction of inflammation through reduction of inflammatory markers, reduction of histopathological damage, and reduction of edema. Exclusion criteria: For both animal and in vitro studies: Studies that evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of morin inderectly will be excluded

- Other Selection Criteria
- For both animal and in vitro studies:Inclusion criteria: 1) studies in cell culture and animal studies; 2) studies specifically related to the application of the flavonoid morin; 3) articles that evaluated the influence of morin as an anti-inflammatory agent; 4) studies with no restrictions on year, language, and publication status. Exclusion criteria: 1) were not related to the topic; 2) literature reviews, letter to the editor, book chapters, abstracts, case reports, editorial; 3) articles that did not have the full text easily available.
