Title
Effect of magnesium on vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
The aim of this meta-analysis is to evalute the efficacy of magnesium on vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease patients
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials and case-control study will be included
Condition Being Studied
Vascular calcification is common in chronic kideney disease(CKD), especially in end-stage kidney disease, accounting for approximately 77.4% in Chinese dialysis patients. Many studies have proved that vascular calcification increased the risk of all-cause and cardiovascularof mortality in CKD patients. Many measures have been studied to prevent and treat it, including exploring the effects of magnesium. However, the efficacy of magnesium is uncertain.
Participant
Adults with chronic kidney disease older than 18 years, including renal replacement therapy patients.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Magnesium was the main intervention(any form of magnesium supplementation, including drugs, dialysis prescriptions and diet)
Comparator Control
Placebo control or blank control
Main Outcome
vascular calcification score Measures of effect SMD/MD
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
serum calcium, phosphorus, iPTH, T50 and carotid intima-media thickness Measures of effect SMD/MD
