Title
The effect of walnut consumption on cardio-metabolic profiles of individuals with abnormal glucose homeostasis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
What is the effect of walnut consumption on cardio-metabolic profiles of individuals with abnormal glucose homeostasis?
Study Type Included
Clinical trials
Condition Being Studied
Diabetes, a major public health problem, is affecting 422 million people based on reports of the World Health Organization (WHO). Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2050 identified that total diabetes prevalence (diagnosed and undiagnosed cases) is projected to increase from 14% in 2010 to 21% of the US adult. Weight loss, regular physical activity, and several dietary strategies have been described for better management of diabetes. Walnut is a nutrient-dense low glycemic index food, rich in nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins that influenced on diabetes.
Participant
Participants with abnormal glucose homeostasis - defined as a spectrum of impaired glucose tolerance or pre-diabetic status (individuals with metabolic syndrome or PCOS or obesity with fasting glucose level between 110 to 125 mg/dl) that is associated with insulin resistance as well as diagnosed type II diabetes mellitus (fasting glucose higher than 126 mg/dL or the use of OHAs).
