Intervention
Melanin hyperpigmentation (MH) is a situation with excessive melanin deposition, which may cause darker areas frequently in the gingiva. Various internal and external factors are known as inflammation, drugs, smoking etc. for activating pigmented lesions. Gingival depigmentation is treatment of MH via various surgical procedures such as bur abrasion, scraping with scalpel, partial thickness flap, gingivectomy, cryotherapy, electrosurgery, free gingival grafting, chemical methods, subepithelial connective tissue graft, lasers, and combination techniques.
