- Title
- The effect of soy isoflavone intake on bone mineral density: A systematic review and meta-analysis of double-blind randomized control trial
- Review Question
- Does soy/isoflavones or phytoestrogen intake have e significant effect on Bone Mineral Density to improve postmenopausal-related quality of life?
- Study Type Included
- RCT
- Condition Being Studied
- Several animal studies have provided convincing data on the significant improvement of bone mass after soy protein or isolated isoflavone-enriched soy extract supplementation (Alekel et al., 2010). Soy isoflavones have been proposed as alternatives to hormone therapy (HT) for preventing bone loss (William W Wong et al., 2009), and a high intake of dietary isoflavones are associated with an increase in bone mineral content in postmenopausal women

- Same Topic Review
- From the meta-analysis of the isoflavone effect on bone resorption, the researcher found that menopausal and postmenopausal women lose a mean of 2–5% and up to 3% in a year respectively because of estrogen dysregulation and deficiency (Lambert, Hu, & Jeppesen, 2017).
