- Randomized clinical trial will be included in this systematic review and meta-analysis.

- Blood pressure management in adults.
- Participant
- Adult population will be included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. We will limit this systematic review and meta-analysis to trials / clinical studies performed only in humans.

- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Chicory inulin-type fructans (ITF) irrespective of their degree polymerization (DP) chain length (e.g. oligofructose, inulin, mixed of oligofructose and inulin). Exclusions: • Trials / clinical studies only evaluating inulin-type fructans (ITF) obtained from other sources than chicory root (e.g. agave, artichokes, yacon) will be excluded. • Trials / clinical studies using chicory inulin-type fructans (ITF) mixed with probiotics (synbiotics) will be excluded. • Trials / clinical studies using modified inulin with other active compounds (e.g. inulin propionate-esters) will be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Placebo/control (e.g. maltodextrin, sucrose, dextrose, cellulose, starch, control meal without chicory ITF). Exclusions: • Trials / clinical studies only evaluating chicory inulin-type fructans (ITF) without using any placebo or comparable control will be excluded. • Trials / clinical studies comparing chicory inulin-type fructans (ITF) as prebiotics with probiotics without using any appropriate placebo/control will be excluded.
- Main Outcome
- Blood pressures (sytolic blood pressure/SBP and diastolic blood pressure/DBP) which are relevant for health claim submission as outlined by European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) in the ‘Guidance for the scientic requirements for health claims related to antioxidants, oxidative damage and cardiovascular health’ will be evaluated. For that, trials / clinical studies that report either SBP or DBP or both will be eligible for inclusion. Measures of effect The overall effect size mean difference (MD) will be synthesized from differences of changes from baseline and its respective standard deviation between chicory-derived ITF supplementation and placebo/control.
