Topical indigo naturalis preparation in the treatment of psoriasis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
The aim of this systematic review and meta analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of topical indigo naturalis preparation for psoriasis.
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning efficacy and safety of topical indigo naturalis preparation in the treatment of psoriasis will be included.
Condition Being Studied
Psoriasis is an inflammatory and relapsing skin disease that affects at least 1.25 billion people's physical and mental health all around the world. Nowadays, there is an increasing risk of psoriasis comorbidites such as psoriatic arthritis and cardiometabolic diseases, which has attached great importance to psoriasis treatment. At present, the treatment of psoriasis is mainly biologics and oral systematic therapies such as methotrexate, which are reported to increase adverse events in the longterm medication. In terms of the issue of adverse events occuring in the treatment of psoriasis, Chinese herbal medicine treatment may be an adjuvant treatment even effective alternative treatment for psoriasis.
Participant
All participants diagnosed with psoriasis will be concerned. There will be no restrictions on sex, age, race, economic status, or education.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Any studies reporting topical indigo naturalis preparation treatment will be included. Topical indigo naturalis preparation could be used alone or combined with routine pharmacotherapy.
Comparator Control
The control interventions will include placebo, routine pharmacotherapy, other conventional treatments and no treatment.
Main Outcome
The primary outcome will be Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
The additional outcomes will be assessed as follows: (1) Clinical response rate measured by Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score; (2) Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score; (3) Physician Global Assessment (PGA) score or Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) score; (4) Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score; (5) Adverse event; (6) Relapse or recurrence.
