- Review Question
- To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Indigo Naturalis preparation in the treatment of IBD．
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies (cohort, cross-sectional and case-control studies) will be included without restriction of publication type or language. Only research articles will be included without restriction of publication type or language in our research. Conference, abstract, and review articles will not be included.
- Condition Being Studied
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a type of abnormal immune-mediated chronic and recurrent intestinal inflammation. And IBD has a tendency of recurrence throughout life. Crohn Disease (CD) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) are the main disease types. At present, the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease mainly consists of drug treatment. In clinical, when IBD patients lose response or intolerance to drugs, and infection due to immunosuppression, Chinese medicine treatment may be an adjuvant treatment even effective alternative treatment.
- Participant
- Regardless of the type of IBD, all participants diagnosed with IBD will be concerned. There will be no restrictions on sex, age, ethnicity, economic status, or education.

- Intervention
- Studies reporting any type of Indigo Naturalis Preparation treatment will be included. Indigo Naturalis Preparation could be used alone or combined with routine pharmacotherapy.
- Comparator Control
- Control interventions will include no treatment, placebo control, routine pharmacotherapy, and other conventional treatments.
- Main Outcome
- The primary outcomes of this review will focus on Clinical effective rate, Clinical response and remission (including the induction of remission or the maintenance of remission). The definitions employed in the original studies will be accepted for these outcomes. Measures of effect The enumeration data are represented by relative risk (RR); measurement data will use mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for each effect quantity.

- (1) Adverse event; (2) Other measurements of disease activity (such as endoscopic remission, clinical recurrence); (3) changes in participant status as evaluated by quality of life; (4) cost (if available).
