Review Question
How do different grades of mercury exposure affect cognition in adults?
Study Type Included
We will include observational studies, cohort designs, case-control, and cross-sectional. Case studies that focus on a small sample (less than 5) will be excluded.
Condition Being Studied
Mercury exposure. Cognition in adults.
Participant
Inclusion: Adults aged 18 and over. Exclusion: Adolescents under 18.

Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Mercury exposure in occupational, medicinal, and everyday settings.
Comparator Control
Non-exposed groups vs Exposed
Main Outcome
The following cognitive domains will be used as outcomes, with example testing batteries given in brackets: sustained attention (Trail Making Test A), divided attention (Trail Making Test B), motor function (Grooved Pegboard), immediate memory (California Verbal Learning Test), recent memory (same as immediate), visuospatial/constructional skills (Block Design), executive functioning (Raven's Matrices), language (Verbal Fluency), and processing speed (Symbol Digits). Measures of effect Standardised mean differences.
