Is there an association between the environmental or occupational exposure to metals Mn, Hg and Fe, (Manganese, Mercury or Iron) and the risk of developing Parkinson's Disease in populations of low and middle-income countries?
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, cluster trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, nested case-control studies, ecological studies.
Condition Being Studied
Neurodegenerative diseases: Parkinson's Disease. Low and middle-income countries' populations
Participant
Adults from low and middle-income countries. We defined “low and middle-income countries” following the World Bank criteria for 2020.

Intervention
Environmental or occupational exposure to metals (Manganese, Mercury, Iron).
Comparator Control
No exposure to environmental/occupational metals.
Main Outcome
The number of cases of Parkinson disease’s diagnosis, defined clinically by cardinal and additional signs. Different clinical validated definitions will be considered (The New International Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorder Society Diagnostic Criteria, The UK Parkinson’s Disease Society Brain Bank Diagnostic Criteria).
