Review Question
To assess the effects of intranasal steroids, leukotriene antagonists, decongestant, and second generation Histamine H1 Antagonists in adult patients with allergic rhinitis.
Study Type Included
Randomised, double-blinded, parallel group design clinical trials will be included, otherwise excluded.
Condition Being Studied
Allergic rhinitis is a common disease characterised by nasal itch, sneezing, rhinorrhoea and nasal obstruction, sometimes accompanied by allergic conjunctivitis. It is divided into seasonal allergic rhinitis and persistent allergic rhinitis.
Participant
Patients older than 18 years with seasonal or persistent allergic rhinitis without asthma.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Any single or combination treatment of intranasal steroids, leukotriene antagonists, decongestants, or second generation Histamine H1 Antagonists compared with placebo will be included. Other treatments will be excluded.
Comparator Control
Placebo.
Main Outcome
Total nasal symptoms.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Nasal blockage, nasal discharge, sneezing, nasal itch, total nasal symptoms, nasal resistance, eye symptoms and quality of life score.
