Could food or beverages except drinking water be added into Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder when adults take bowel preparation ?
Study Type Included
We will include randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials to assess the beneficial effects of the additives into Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder.
Condition Being Studied
Adults take bowel preparation.
Participant
The inclusion criteria are:(1) Adults take cathartics to prepare bowel,(2) Control interventions are defined as those added food or beverages except drinking water into Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder,(3)Observation interventions are defined as those added only drinking water into Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powders,(4) Without study setting or time restrictions,(5) Studies include one outcome at least,(6) Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or controlled clinical trials (CCTs),(7) In English or Chinese. The exclusion criteria are:(1) Adolescents (under 18 years of age),(2)Take enema and cathartics on the same day,(3)Duplicate publications (based on the same primary study),(4)Grey literature,(5) The full text cannot be obtained from the database or by contacting the author.

Intervention
Control interventions are defined as those added food or beverages except drinking water into Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder when adults take bowel preparation to change bowel cleanliness, taste or flavor, tolerance, compliance, side effects, such as flavoring agents, sweetening agents, dietary carbohydrates, energy drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, carbonated beverages, coffee, tea and so on.
Comparator Control
Adults take bowel preparation with Polyethylene Glycol or Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder dissolved by drinking water.
Main Outcome
1.Bowel cleanliness ;2.Taste or flavor;3.Tolerance. Measures of effect 1.Bowel cleanliness measured using the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) or Ottawa Bowel Preparation Scale (OBPS) while with colonoscopy or surgery;2.Taste or flavor measured by subjective feeling questionnaire when drinking; 3.Willingness to repeat the preparation as a proxy for adults' tolerance after drinking.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
1.Side effects;2.Compliance. Measures of effect 1.Incidence of side effects within 3 days ;2.Compliance calculated by the completion rate of drinking.
