Title
Inter-individual variability in response to the impact of flavonols on cardiometabolic biomarkers: a systematic review protocol and meta-analysis
Review Question
To assess the inter-individual variability in response to the impact of flavonols on biomarkers of cardiometabolic diseases.
Study Type Included
Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of flavonols on cardiometabolic biomarkers. Exclusion: case series, case reports, cohort studies, case-control studies, and cross-sectional studies
Condition Being Studied
Cardiovascular risk factors in human subjects.
Participant
Human subjects, including both sexes and without any age restriction. Exclusion: studies conducted in animals and in vitro.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Studies evaluating dietary interventions with flavonols. No treatment period restrictions will be imposed
Comparator Control
The studies must have been included a control group, whether receiving a placebo (a group of participants who were not exposed to the flavonol-food sources) or simply not being exposed to anything.
Main Outcome
Outcomes related to flow-mediated dilatation (FMD), blood pressure, plasma or serum lipid levels (triglycerides, total-, HDL- and LDL-cholesterol), exercise capacity, platelet aggregation, body mass index, waist circumference, glucose, fasting insulin, glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR).
