Review Question
Which are the effects of guarana supplementation on the autonomic nervous system?
Study Type Included
We will include randomised or non-randomized trials to assess the beneficial effects of the treatments, crossover, single or double blind, and placebo-controlled clinical trials.
Condition Being Studied
Cardiovascular diseases from changes in heart rate variability (HRV). Guarana and exercise can help prevent these diseases in adults
Participant
Inclusion: Adults, men and women (between 18 and 45 years old) in good health and free from illicit drugs and without prescription drugs. Exclusion: Elderlies, adolescents, pregnant women, regular smokers, severe physical illnesses, psychiatric disorders (including depression and anxiety) or neurological disease, metabolic, endocrine and cardiac disorders, chronic alcohol consumption, as well as use of psychotropic drugs or medications that affect the cardiovascular system.

Intervention
The ingestion of an effervescent drink or capsule containing guarana and may be a session of physical exercise. The type of physical exercise has not been established.
Comparator Control
Placebo, such as drinks and effervescent tablets, capsules and water added with unsweetened syrup.
Main Outcome
The results will be presented through the assessment of acute behavioral and mood effects, cognitive performance, heart rate variability, acute cerebral electrophysiological changes and potential psychoactive effects. Measures of effect HRV will be evaluated in the time domain (RMSSD - square root of the mean square of the differences between cardiac intervals) and in the frequency domain (HF - high frequency, ranging from 0.15 to 0.4Hz).
