- Title
- Efficacy of phloroglucinol for the treatment of abdominal or pelvic pain of gynecologic or obstetrical origin: a systematic review of litterature of randomised, controlled trials<br />
- Review Question
- Is there good evidence to justify the prescription of drugs containing phloroglucinol to treat abdominal or pelvic pain of gynecologic or obstetrical origin?
- Study Type Included
- We will include randomised and controlled versus placebo trials to assess the beneficial effects of the treatments. We will exclude articles for which the full-text is not available either in English or in French. We will exclude trials which concern pain caused by digestive or renal or metabolic or traumatic pathologies.
- Condition Being Studied
- Abdominal and pelvic pain caused by gynecologic or obstetric pathologies or cases.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Female patients without restriction of age or ethnic group. Exclusion: male patients or mixed gender studies.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Administration of phloroglucinol to treat abdominal or pelvic pain caused by a gynecologic or obstetric pathology or state. In hospital or in out-patient care setting. No matter the form of administration (oral administration or injection).
- Comparator Control
- Administration of placebo.
- Main Outcome
- Pain relief from baseline to end of trial with a binary response pattern: yes or no. No matter the tool used to measure this, we will use the author's definition of responsivenss to treatment when available in the metholodology section of the article. Measures of effect From baseline to end of trial.
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- If applicable, we will analyse pain relief as a continuous outcome (from baseline to end of trial) by comparison of standard mean difference or mean difference (if all trials use the same means to measure pain relief). Measures of effect From baseline to end of trial.
