Title
The efficacy and safety of phloroglucinol and anisodamine for renal colics in pregnant women: A meta-analysis.
Review Question
The aim of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of phloroglucinol and anisodamine for renal colics in pregnant women.
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included.
Condition Being Studied
Kidney stones are very common and unfortunately do not spare the pregnant population. The management often means a challenge for the urologist and gynecologist due to the complexity involved in preserving the maternal and fetal well-being. Conservative drug treatment is the main treatment method for pregnant women with renal colic attack. When the treatment is not timely and complicated with pyelonephritis or premature rupture of membranes, the rate of preterm delivery is higher. Therefore, timely, effective and reasonable selection of spasmodic and analgesic drugs is very important. Phloroglucinol and anisodamine are common drugs in the treatment of renal colic. However, anisodamine and other traditional anticholinergic drugs are likely to induce adverse effects, such as increased heart rate, dry mouth, urine retention and so on. Phloroglucinol is a myophilic non-atropine, non-papaverine pure smooth muscle antispasmolytic, which can directly act on the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital smooth muscle, inhibit the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urethra and uterine smooth muscle contraction, to relieve smooth muscle spasm. Based on our knowledge, there is no systematic review or meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of phloroglucinol and anisodamine for ranal colics in pregnant women.
Participant
Pregnant women with renal colics wil be included.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The experimental group received phloroglucinol.
Comparator Control
The control group was treated with anisodamine.
Main Outcome
1-hour remission rate. Measures of effect RR and 95% CI will be calculated for 1-hour remission rate. Furthermore, we will perform the heterogeneity test and the consistency test before consolidating the data.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Recurrence rate at 6 hours and adverse reactions including xerostomia, dysuria, blurred vision, headaches orand dizziness and palpitation. Measures of effect RR and 95% CI will be calculated. Furthermore, we will perform the heterogeneity test and the consistency test before consolidating the data.
Study Method
Meta-analysis, Systematic review
