Title
Evaluation of the creatinine-based CKD-EPI and MDRD equations in estimating the GFR in black patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
(P) Should black people (I) estimate glomerular filtration rate (C) by serum creatinine-based CKD-EPI or MDRD equations with or without the race coefficient (O) to have a more accurate result?
Study Type Included
Cross Sectional and Observational Cohorts
Condition Being Studied
Performance of CKD-EPI and MDRD formulas in assessing estimated glomerular filtration rate in black individuals.
Participant
Inclusion: Adults (>18 years old) self-identified as black Exclusion: children, animals, experimental
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
CKD-EPI and MDRD serum creatinine-based formulas
Comparator Control
Comparator: CKD-EPI and MDRD calculated with and without the race coefficient Control: GFR measured by reference methods (ex: iotalamate-I125, 51Cr-EDTA, 99mTc-DTPA, inulin, iohexol)
Main Outcome
Accuracy of the estimated glomerular filtration rate assessed as the percentage of GFR estimates within 10% (P10), 15% (P15), 20% (P20), or 30% (P30) of mGFR Measures of effect As above.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
The coefficient of correlation between eGFR and mGFR will be recorded. Measures of effect As above.
Study Method
Diagnostic, Meta-analysis, Systematic review
