- The objective is to describe what is known about identification and treatment of codeine dependence.
- Study Type Included
- Types of studiesWe will include reviews of both experimental and epidemiological study designs including randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental, before and after studies, prospective and retrospective cohort studies, case control studies and analytical cross sectional studies for inclusion.Exclusion criteriaPapers that are limited to describing clinical uses of codeine, pharmacology of codeine, opioids other than codeine and letters and commentaries that do not include empirical data will not be included.

- People who have developed codeine dependence through therapeutic or non-medical use.We will review characteristics of codeine dependence, including studies that compare those with codeine dependence to other populations.
