Effects of soy isoflavones on cognitive function: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Review Question
To assess the effect of soy isoflavones on cognition.
Study Type Included
We will include the following RCT designs: parallel, factorial, and cross-over. We will not include cluster-randomized trials. We will exclude observational studies (cohort, cross-sectional, and case-control) and quasi-randomized studies. We will restrict studies to English.
Condition Being Studied
Cognitive decline; soy isoflavones are suggested to be associated with cognition for its multiple health effects (e.g., anti-inflammation, estrogen-like effect, etc.).
Participant
Exclusion criteria: participants are under the age of 18.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Soy isoflavones (including genistein and daidzein).
Comparator Control
Placebo, an intervention other than soy isoflavones, or non-exposed control group.
Main Outcome
Neuropsychological test score (continuous).
