- Title
- Influence of arginine and citrulline on biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress in response to physical exercise and recovery: A systematic review with meta-analysis.
- Review Question
- Investigate the involvement of arginine and citrulline on biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress in response to exercise.
- Study Type Included
- Randomised trials to assess the beneficial effects of the treatments
- Condition Being Studied
- Recovering after a physical fitness
- Participant
- participants older than 18 years
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- arginine or citrulline supplementation and exercise
- Comparator Control
- the control group should intake placebo
- Main Outcome
- The studies must analyze the outcomes of oxidative stress and inflammatory markers measured before and post exercise session. Oxidative stress outcomes, the indexes included were: TBARS, Carbonyls, Uric acid (mg/dL), Malondialdehyde (MDA) (μM), Neutrophil MDA (mmol/106 cells), Creatine (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Regarding the outcomes for Antioxidants, we included: Superoxide dismutase (SOD) (U/mL, Catalase activity (nmol/min/mL), glutathione peroxidase (GPx).
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- Inflammatory we included: inter-leukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alph. Anti-inflammatory: inter-leukin-10 (IL-10). We adopted the criterion of extracting all data offered between groups in post-exercise recovery.
