- Title
- Effect of commonly used endodontic chelators (such as Etidronic acid, citric acid, QMix and others) on radicular dentine: A systematic review.
- Review Question
- What is the effect of Chelating agents on radicular dentine when compared with Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)?
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials will be included in the review.
- Condition Being Studied
- The smear layer is an amorphous film that is always formed by the action of endodontic instruments inside the root canal during chemomechanical preparation. The chelating agents help in removing the smear layer, increasing the access of irrigants to allow disinfection, and also reduce microhardness. Microhardness is an indirect evidence of mineral changes in dentin. Its reduction facilitates the instrumentation throughout the canal but, it may weaken the root and increases permeability of dentin. Therefore, this systematic review focuses on finding which chelating agent will have significant effect on the radicular dentin as compared to EDTA.
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria:- a. In-vitro study b. Mature extracted teeth c. Articles reporting information about difference between various chelating agents on root dentin microhardness Exclusion Criteria:- a. Case reports, Reviews, Expert opinions to be excluded. b. Studies perform on animals, primary teeth will be excluded.
