- Title
- Sodium picosulfate plus magnesium citrate regimens versus polyethylene glycol-based regimens for bowel cleansing before colonoscopy
- Review Question
- To determine whether sodium picosulfate plus magnesium citrate regimens is better than polyethylene glycol-based regimens for bowel cleansing before colonoscopy
- Study Type Included
- Randomised controlled trials
- Condition Being Studied
- Adequate bowel cleansing is important for colonoscopy to detect lessions. Now,polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based regimens are widely used. However, not all patients are satisfied with these regimens for bad taste or large volume.sodium picosulfate plus magnesium citrate seem to be better tolerated. Comparison is needed to determine which bowel preparation method is better.
- Participant
- All randomised controlled trials of patients comparing the bowel cleansing efficacy of sodium picosulfate plus magnesium citrate (including sodium picosulfate plus magnesium oxide, citric acid) with any polyethylene glycol-based regimen prior to colonoscopy will be included.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Sodium picosulfate is a stimulant laxative. Magnesium citrate is an osmotic laxative. Magnesium oxide and citric acid form magnesium citrate when they meet water. Both regimens of sodium picosulfate/magnesium citrate and sodium picosulfate/magnesium oxide, citric acid will be included in the analysis. The regimens contain polyethylene glycol will be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Any bowel preparation regimens contain polyethylene glycol were included. The regimens containing sodium picosulfate will be excluded.
- Main Outcome
- Quality of bowel cleansing Measures of effect The ratio of patients with an adequate preparation of bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- 1. polyp detection 2. patient tolerability and safety 2.1 overall satisfaction 2.2 side effects (abdominal fullness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or sleep disturbance) 2.3 complications 3. palatability (taste) 4. willingness to repeat the preparation if necessary Measures of effect the proportion of patients
