- Title
- In patients that underwent dental extractions, are there differences in healing outcomes using gelatin, cellulose and/or collagen?
- Review Question
- In patients that underwent dental extractions, are there differences in healing outcomes using gelatin, cellulose and/or collagen?
- Study Type Included
- We are open to other studies, however randomised control trials will be the focal point
- Condition Being Studied
- Patients undergoing dental extractions experience delayed healing and maybe attributable to multiple factors (eg. comorbidities, medications, trauma, infections, iatrogenic). Numerous methods have been used to promote healing. In the recent times, agents such as gelatin, cellulose, and collagen has been used with promising results. However, there has been no published systematic reviews/meta-analysis to highlight the efficacy of such agents.
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria: Patients that have undergone dental extractions (simple, surgical) Exclusion criteria: N/A
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- The use of gelatin, cellulose and/or collagen that has been placed in dental extraction socket immediately post extraction.
- Comparator Control
- Any of the other agents (eg. plasma rich fibrin or platelets) or placebo
- Main Outcome
- We are assessing healing outcomes (healing time, radiographic success, clinical success where available) Measures of effect Clinical success will be based on percentages of successful healing without complications Radiographic success will be based on percentages of successful healing with radiographic evidence Risk difference will be calculated to determine the difference between two agents
