- Condition Being Studied
- Mental disorders are psychological manifestations associated with some functional impairment resulting from biological, social, psychological, genetic, physical or chemical dysfunctions, producing losses in the person's overall performance in the personal, social, occupational and family spheres. The COVID-19 pandemic and the recommended control measures have had adverse impacts on mental health, with negative effects on daily life and the quality of people's health. Quarantined individuals reported a higher prevalence of psychological symptoms such as emotional distress, depression, stress, irritability, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Anxiety disorders include disorders that share characteristics of excessive fear and anxiety and related behavioral disorders. Considered a natural reaction of the human being when placed in unusual and unpleasant situations, anxiety becomes pathological when its symptoms are aggravated, making self-control impossible. Physical symptoms may be experienced, including restlessness or a feeling of “nerves on the edge”; fatigability; Difficulty concentrating; irritability; muscle tension; and sleep disorders. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder that can develop in people who have been exposed to a traumatic, stressful and/or violent event that threatens their own life or the lives of others.
