- Title
- Effect of plantago consumption on blood lipids: A systematic review and meta-analysis
- Review Question
- The purpose of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was to summarize the effect of Plantago consumption on blood lipids in humans. The participants included in the study were adults over 18 years old. The methods of the intervention group are consumpt plantago including various forms of plantago such as plantago husk, plantago seed, plantago drink, etc. In addition, the methods of the control group did not include consumpt plantago. The outcomes included triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). All included studies were randomized controlled trials.
- Study Type Included
- All included studies were randomized controlled trials.
- Condition Being Studied
- Plantago is a perennial herb with medicinal properties such as nourishing the liver, clearing heat and detoxifying, expectorating phlegm and relieving pain. Plantago contains soluble dietary fiber, which can combine with some fatty acids in food in the intestinal tract, reducing the body's absorption of fat. Meanwhile, it can regulate the balance of intestinal flora and promote the production of short-chain fatty acids, which in turn can positively regulate lipid metabolism. Supplementing plantago to people with abnormal blood lipid levels can regulate lipid levels.

- Intervention
- Inclusion criteria: The methods of the intervention group are consumpt plantago including various forms of plantago such as planago husk, plantago seed, plantago drink, etc. Exclusion criteria: The methods of the control group did not include consumpt plangato or joint intervention.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion criteria:The methods of the control group did not include consumpt plantago.
- Main Outcome
- The main outcome was triglycerides (TG)(measured, etc), total cholesterol (TC)(measured, etc), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)(measured, etc), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)(measured, etc). Measures of effect The weighted mean difference (WMD; value at the end of the trial minus the value at the baseline), and 95% confidence interval (CI) were defined as the effect sizes of this meta-analysis.
