Title
Efficacy of adding bismuth to primary Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy : Systemic review and meta-analyses
Review Question
To assess the effects of bismuth in the 1st line helicobacter pylori eradication
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trial
Condition Being Studied
Asia has the largest population of any continent and the highest incidence of gastric cancer in the world, making it very important in the context of Helicobacter pylori infection. According to current guidelines, standard triple therapy containing a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and two antibiotics; amoxicillin (AMX) and clarithromycin (CAM) or metronidazole (MNZ), is still the preferred first-line regimen for treatment of H. pylori infection. However, the efficacy of legacy triple regimens has been seriously challenged, and they are gradually becoming ineffective. Moreover, some regions in Asia show patterns of emerging antimicrobial resistance. Bismuth supplement has been known improving the efficacy of Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy by some studeis. Under the circumstances of antimicrobial resistance, we would study the efficacy of adding bismuth to primary Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy through systemic review and meta-analyses.
Participant
Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection were included. But who had experience of failure the 1st line eradication therapy of Helicobacter pylori were excluded.
