Title
Predictive value of liver cirrhosis using metabolite biomarkers of bile acid in the blood: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
This study aims to systematically review the change of bile acid metabolites in liver cirrhosis, revealing the relationship between the change of bile acid and the process of cirrhosis, attempting to explore the potential biomarkers which can predict cirrhosis.
Study Type Included
We will include clinical studies based on human including randomized controlled trial, cohort study and case control study without restriction of time, however languages are English and Chinese.
Condition Being Studied
Liver cirrhosis is the end stage liver disease resulting from continuous intra-hepatic inflammation and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation caused by uncontrolled chronic liver diseases. Previous studies have indicated that bile acid is associated with progression of liver cirrhosis. However, the particular role of specific bile acid in the development of liver cirrhosis is not definite. Thus, the aim of this review is to explore the potential biomarkers which can predict cirrhosis.
Participant
Adult patients with a confirmed clinical diagnosis of Liver Cirrhosis will be included in the study. Exclude: The pregnancy; cirrhosis patient with other liver disease including hepatic encephalopathy and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The metebolomic profile of bile acid in blood sample which are measured and analysed using metabolomic techniques.
Comparator Control
Healthy people will serve as controls whose metabolomics profile of bile acid using the same way as in patients with cirrhosis.
Main Outcome
The different metabolomics profile of bile acid between the cirrhosis and the healthy, which could become a biomarker in order to predictively diagnose cirrhosis. And their concentration will be aggregated as a primary outcome to perform a meta-analysis. Measures of effect We will report outcomes as mean difference (MD) and standard deviation (SD) for continuous outcomes.
